Keep Your Summer Toys Safe This Fall With These Tips

Summer Toy Storage

With the first official day of fall just a couple of weeks away, you may be trying to squeeze as much time in with your summer toys as possible. Before the weather gets too cold, it is important to get your toys ready for storage. Keep these tips in mind to ensure that your toys will be ready for  action  when the weather starts to warm up again.

To store your boat:

  • Clean the inside and outside of your boat. If you find any cracks in the hull, make a note for yourself to get it fixed before the next boating season comes around.
  • Completely fill the gas tank to prevent any condensation from building up and damaging the tanks. Add a fuel stabilizer to the gas to prevent any fuel degradation.
  • Take out all electronics, including your GPS and radio to prevent any damage. You may also want to take out life jackets, fire extinguishers, and flares to keep them in working order for next summer.

To store your RV:

  • Thoroughly wash the outside and deep clean the inside of your RV. Applying wax to the exterior of your RV will help to keep it clean while in storage.
  • Empty all of the water tanks, including the hot water heater. Blow out the pilot light for the water heater.
  • Remove any perishable food items from the refrigerator and cabinets. Keep the door to the fridge slightly open to help with air circulation.

While your boat and RV are in storage, they still need to be protected with the right insurance policies. Contact the independent insurance professionals at Mayer Insurance in Apple Valley, Minnesota for all of your summer toy insurance needs.
